Practical Test

The driving test is designed to ensure that you can drive safely in different road and traffic conditions and that you know The Highway Code and can show this through your driving.

What To Expect
After meeting your examiner you will be asked to perform an eyesight check – if you fail this, your test will not continue.

You will then be asked two questions about carrying out vehicle safety checks, these are know as 'show me/tell me' questions which we will have covered thoroughly on the lessons leading up to your practical test. Should you answer one or both questions incorrectly it would result in a driving fault being recorded.

The driving part of your test will last about 40 minutes. You are being examined on your general driving and ability to reverse your vehicle safely. You will be asked to perform one manoeuvre during your test, this could be a bay parking in a car park, park on the right side of the road reverse couple of cars, and then move off, or a reverse parking.

You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop exercise.

Don't panic if you make a mistake! It might not mean that you have failed, just carry on driving the way that you would on a normal lesson.

Independent Driving
The practical test now consists of approx. 15 minutes of independent driving. This is designed to assess your ability to drive safely while making decisions independently. Again, we will have practised this on your lessons and you will know exactly what to expect.
